Aside from high-performance memory modules and reliable storage products, Transcend has also been heavily invested in monitoring solutions. The company has been offering dashcams in the DrivePro lineup, and it has been well-received thus far. Now, Transcend wants to add more into its portfolio by releasing the DrivePro Body 20 and the DrivePro Body 52. What we’re looking at here is the company’s DrivePro Body 20, a no-frills body camera that can give anyone a straightforward solution when it comes to monitoring security on application.

Packaging
Transcend ships the DrivePro Body 20 in quite an appealing
packaging. A photo of the device is printed upfront to give you a reference on
its form factor, and the key features are listed below for you to see. The
features are also printed on both sides, while the product’s specifications are
listed on the back.

Once you prop the package open, you’ll be met with another
box that contains the DrivePro Body 20 itself along with a separate box for the
inclusions. There’s a USB cable for charging and transferring data, a wall
adapter, an extra clip, Velcro, and some paperwork.

Design
Transcend’s DrivePro Body 20, as mentioned, is a
straightforward monitoring device without gimmicks and whatnot, and we’re
digging its design. It’s light and compact that you’ll never have problems
fitting it into its proper places – bag straps, lanyards, shirts, you name it. The
camera itself is placed top center of the device, while the record/power on
button is situated below it. There’s also a Wi-Fi button further down below,
which you will be using when you’re connecting it to your smartphone.

On the other hand, we’re not sure why Transcend opted with a
3.5mm jack for data transfers and charging. A microUSB port would have sufficed
since there’s always that chance of you misplacing the 3.5mm jack to USB cable
in the long run.

Usage and Performance
The DrivePro Body 20 is quite easy to use – all it takes is
just one push of a button and you’re all set to go. Pressing the power button
on the center will start the recording, and pressing it again will stop. The 160-degree
wide-angle recordings are shot continuously, and are separated to 3-minute
videos to make it easier for scanning. You can also take quick snapshots by
just pressing the Wi-Fi button, which will come in handy if you need to take a
note of something really quick.

You’ll also want to download the DrivePro Body app to take
full advantage of the device. From there, you can view a livestream feed of the
DrivePro Body 20 by connecting your smartphone to the device via Wi-Fi. Now,
this one’s actually tricky if you haven’t read the instructions. The DrivePro Body
20 will be the connection you’ll want to join in via your smartphone’s Wi-Fi. Once
you get connected, you can launch the app and click on the device itself for
instant livestream and watching your recorded videos.

As far as the quality of the recording goes, we’re very
impressed with the DrivePro Body 20. Videos are taken clearly in Full HD 1080p
resolution with 30fps. Each 3-minute clip runs about 274MB, which should fill
the ample 32GB of internal storage with about 150 3-minute clips or 450
minutes/7.5 hours of recording.

Transcend is also offering a docking station if you have
multiple DrivePro Body cameras with you, making it a whole lot easier for you
to sync up to 6 cameras in just one go. You’ll have to download the DrivePro
Toolbox for it to work, though. But you can download it for free through
Transcend’s website.

Conclusion
Transcend tags the DrivePro 20 as a device designed for
military, law enforcement, and private security applications, and it does a
great job performing on such applications with ease. It can deliver exceptional
recording quality, which really should be what it’s about. We’re also pleased
with its connection to mobile devices. Although not seamless, having a
livestream option in a couple of clicks is a welcomed addition if you want to monitor
someone’s movements in an area.
Quite frankly, the application isn’t limited only to
security and military usage. Video bloggers can experiment on this nifty device,
which should add up to the flavor of their platform. The Transcend DrivePro
Body 20 is ready with just a click, and it can keep on running so you don’t miss
out on anything.
