Zeus M-710 "Professional Mechanical” Keyboard and Gaming Mouse Bundle Review

I’ll be first to say it, just so you don’t jump the gun and take the chance on a Php399 mechanical keyboard and praise the gods it’s an EZ buy. Hell no. The Zeus M-710 bundle is probably the worst piece of peripheral I have ever held in my hand, and that’s saying something because I’ve been using a wireless keyboard and an A4tech ergonomic mouse. Both of which do not even have the word “gaming” or “mechanical” in them.

Don’t let any marketing taglines even pull you in on buying this one. Zeus is tagging this one as a mechanical keyboard, and there’s no way you’ll get even one at this pricepoint. It’s no dream come true or a pricing error. We’re actually taking a bullet for you guys here.

Well, anyway. On to the review.

Packaging

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-2.jpg (640×361)

Let’s start things off with the unboxing part. Okay, props to Lazada for this one for packing this thing like it was the holy grail of gaming peripherals – box wrapped entirely of bubble wrap and plastic. Feels so good to cut it open if I do say so myself.

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-3.jpg (640×361)

After that, you’ll be met with the box design that screams of “ooooh look at me I’m an edgy gamer!” kind of message. It’s the usual design to catch the attention of buyers who don’t exactly know what they want to get and are just referring to the boxart just because it’s there. There’s also Lazada’s logo there to say that this one is exclusively available from their channel. On the flipside there are the specs sheets for both the keyboard and mouse. Surprisingly, this one goes 180° on us and instead lays low by just saying ergonomic and minimal. It does say it’s the “perfection of modern industrial design,” but we’ll see about that soon enough. Also, what in the darkest pits of hell does “increasing iron” even mean? Someone enlighten us if anyone knows. Because we don’t.

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-4.jpg (640×361)

And wow. Nice description here -  “Mouse with symmetrical ergonomic design, meet Asians grip position.” Seriously? Oh, and wait, they dial it down a bit here by saying it’s just “near-perfect.” I can not make this up.

Keyboard

Design

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-5.jpg (640×361)

Design-wise, this keyboard wants to be too edgy for what it is. Yep. It wants to be recognized as a backlit keyboard, and it’s trying to emulate the RGB looks but is just a simple static backlighting setup that you won’t really be tinkering with.

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-6.jpg (640×361)

The keyboard body and keycaps are made out of ABS material. Zeus says it’s for anti-wear and durability, but the body feels flimsy at best. The keycaps are also a bit slippery to the touch, but that really isn’t the worst part. The cable also isn’t braided, which was weird enough since they shipped the included mouse with one. Guys, consistency. Keep it together.

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-7.jpg (640×361)

In here we see how the folks at Zeus made their M-710 lazily. Pop up the keycaps and you’ll be met with a horrible paint job that just adds to the cheapness. Seriously, how hard is it to do the paint job first before adding in the keycaps? We’re not really sure how they did it, and honestly we don’t want to know.

Performance

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-8.jpg (640×361)

Let’s get this straight. I cannot emphasize this enough. This is not a mechanical keyboard, nor does it offer the “mechanical feel” like other cheap gaming keyboards say. And hey, they even have the courtesy to say that it’s not mechanical, just the feel. But this. Oh god. This had the audacity to say that it’s one.

To put it simply, there are no gaming features in this keyboard except for its backlighting, and that doesn’t even do well in it. Basically, it’s an ergonomic keyboard designed to be targeted at gamers, and that’s just it. Actuation force feels inconsistent, but overall you can get used to typing and gaming with it.

Quite frankly, this isn’t going to win over any gamers for what it is. If you want bling, sure. But if you want function, it doesn’t work wonders. What it can do, though, is to give you help when you’re working in the dark. That’s about it.

Mouse

Design

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-9.jpg (640×361)

Design based on Darth Vader. LOL I so want to turn off that backlight effect. Anyway, design-wise, this mouse comes with too many angular shapes that it doesn’t feel good to the touch from time to time. It takes time getting used to, so you’ll probably get a hang of it after a couple of minutes of play time. Still, I’d prefer the standard shaped mouse. What’s good about here is the braided cable setup that can at least add up the durability.

Performance

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-10.jpg (640×361)

We’d actually say the mouse is the better offering in the bundle right here. Few mice in this range offer a dpi switch and two side buttons. There are four different presets for the DPI switch, but Zeus isn’t being specific about the values. Either way, it’s fine. It doesn’t glide as easily to give you a much better grip. But again, it’s up to your responsiveness and feel.

Conclusion

hexmojo-zeus-m710-review-11.jpg (1000×564)

In all honestly, even with its super appealing price-tag, it’s not worth the money. The only saving grace of the keyboard is its backlight feature, and even then it doesn’t do its job well. On the other hand, the mouse at least has its potential. The two side buttons and DPI switch can give you a leg up in some games, but again the angular shape isn’t really for everyone.

When all is said and done, we can’t really recommend going in for the kill with this one. Save up and buy a no-frills keyboard and mouse bundle. This one is just pretentious for our taste.

HEXMOJO: Zeus M-710 "Professional Mechanical” Keyboard and Gaming Mouse Bundle Review
