HyperX Pulsefire Haste Review

Meet the HyperX Pulsefire Haste, a gaming mouse featuring Pixart PAW3335, 59g weight, RGB, and HyperX’s longstanding reputation all going for it.

Our recognition of the HyperX brand was built upon headsets and keyboards, and this actually marks as our first review of a gaming mouse from the company. Meet the HyperX Pulsefire Haste, a gaming mouse featuring Pixart PAW3335, 59g weight, RGB, and HyperX’s longstanding reputation all going for it. Let’s see how it all goes.

PACKAGING

The Pulsefire Haste arrives in a compact box. It seems HyperX has already shifted its design choices from when it first started shipping its products back with the first Cloud headset and Alloy keyboards. Regardless, the new presentation is nice.

For what’s inside the box, we have the mouse itself in a plastic shell, some paperwork for manual and other products, as well as grips for the sides and buttons, and extra skates for the mouse. That really does come in handy, especially if you’ve resorted to opening it up for switch replacement and you need new skates. Because yeah, you’ll need to access the screws through the adhesive skates.

DESIGN

The Pulsefire Haste is available in three colors – Black, Black-Red, and White-Pink. What we have here is the white and pink model. It’s quite clean looking. The pastel pink on the scroll wheel, DPI button, side buttons and base accentuate the white shell of the mouse. The honeycomb shell is nice as well. Although, some would prefer a shell without holes, so we’re hoping HyperX does release a variant for that.

Build quality is quite solid. The shell is quite sturdy even with the honeycomb design. The texture is quite grippy and not fingerprint magnet at all with this kind of matte coat. There’s very little pre-travel for the left and right mouse button, which you won’t really notice during normal use. It also uses TTC Golden micro dustproof switches. The feedback is great on them, and they feel a whole lot better compared to the Kailh GM8.0 my main mouse is using. The glossy side buttons seem to use different switches judging from the feedback. There’s also some pre-travel there that you’ll notice. The RGB scroll wheel has some grip to it and the steps, while smooth are distinguishable.

As for the size and shape, it’s an ambidextrous mouse that’s moderately sized. It fits nicely for palm and craw grips, but a tad difficult if you have small hands and you’re trying to fingertip grip it with its size. This is also the lightest gaming mouse I’ve tried so far at 59g, which is lighter than my Ninjutso Origin One X at 66g. Even with its light weight, again, it feels quite sturdy and solid. There’s no creaking on the side even with the honeycomb shell.

This is a wired mouse, although there’s a wireless option that’s a tad more expensive. Going back to the topic, the Pulsefire Haste uses what HyperX calls as HyperFlex cable. This uses a flexible paracord material that reduces tension and resistance. And yes, it really does just that. There’s no resistance going against mouse movement, so glide isn’t interfered by it. I didn’t see the need to use a mouse bungee, but feel free to do so if you want a neater space or you just prefer it.

According to HyperX, the Pulsefire Haste uses pure virgin-grade PTFE skates. There’s one for each corner on the underside, but none around the sensor.

SOFTWARE

HyperX employs its NGENUITY software for its gaming products including the Pulsefire Haste. It’s a streamlined software that unifies its peripherals and even its RGB DDR4 memory that you can enable through the settings.  You can also use Gamelink for automatically activating presets for specific games.

For the Pulsefire Haste, you can add multiple effects such as Solid, Cycle and Breathing. You can add a Triggered Effect that fires the RGB when you click on the mouse. You can also reassign buttons, perform Windows shortcuts, control multimedia, and program macro for the side buttons, DPI switch and scroll wheel button. The left and right mouse buttons can only be interchanged in this software, though, but that shouldn’t be a big deal unless you specifically have certain commands for those.

The Sensor section lets you adjust DPI starting from 200 to 16,000 with five (four default) selections. We added a DPI level, but can’t seem to find an option to delete it if we just want to cycle four levels. For assistive indication, there are designated RGB colors for each level that you can also reconfigure if you wish. If you want to share your settings, NGENUITY gives you the option to export your configuration.

USER EXPERIENCE

We’re testing this mouse alongside the Pulsefire Haste Mat that we’re also currently reviewing. The Pulsefire Haste uses Pixart PAW3335. You also have the option to switch DPI up to 16,000 on the fly through the switch at the top below the scroll wheel. You can also customize your settings further through the NGENUITY software alongside corresponding RGB values, so you know what you’re switching to. 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz are the available settings for the Polling Rate that you can also switch to from the software.

We’ve tried this mouse for a good week for work and games like Overwatch, Fortnite and Resident Evil Village. There’s no noticeable flaws here that we’ve experienced during the course of use. And with it being a wired mouse you won’t have any issues with range and interference. Now, we’re sure there’s that debate for wired vs wireless, and even then, there’s the wireless version that looks to be identical but with a more expensive price and a tad more weight.

CONCLUSION

There’s no end-all-be-all mouse, since there’s just some that fit like a glove and others that just don’t. In our case, the HyperX Pulsefire Haste is easily one of the best mice we’ve tried thus far with its sturdy build, moderate size and excellent TTC Gold switches with superb feedback. The HyperFlex cable, as HyperX brands it, is soft and flexible that there’s no resistance during use. Experience has been great so far, and we had no problems using it over the past week of primary use. And hey, the color options are good looking, you have multiple options to choose from based on your preference. The NGENUITY software is pretty straightforward with just one minor gripe in deleting an added DPI level. The bundled skates and grips are a nice addition as well, although I wish it was colored based on the mouse color you choose. And that’s about it for us.
