Blizzard Rumored to Have Pulled Diablo IV from BlizzCon

We’re quite aware of the backlash when Blizzard did a bait-and-switch with Diablo: Immortal. While we were all eager for Diablo IV to be announced during BlizzCon, which should have been the perfect place all set up for the grand reveal, Blizzard instead settled for a mobile game. Now, new rumors surface, indicating that Diablo IV was supposed to be revealed during BlizzCon, but Blizzard ends up pulling it.

According to a report from Kotaku, two people familiar with Blizzard’s plans for BlizzCon said that the company was indeed going to officially unveil Diablo IV with company co-founder Allen Adham saying that the game is in development, but it’s not ready to be shown just yet. However, Blizz instead changed its plans a couple of weeks after BlizzCon and we ended up with only a mobile game. Moreover, one of the sources stated that the company wasn’t ready to make the announcement due to the game having changed drastically during its course over the past four years, and it may even continue to change further as development progresses.

It’s understandable that mobile games are all the rage at the moment, but there’s no reason for Blizzard to opt out in announcing Diablo IV. BlizzCon would have ended with a bang and not a whimper. But hey, at least we’ve got Hero 29, and Hero 29.5.
