PACKAGING

Beyerdynamic means business with the TEAM TYGR. You’re getting two things here as we’ve mentioned. There’s the TYGR 300 R Gaming Headset and the FOX USB Studio Microphone as mentioned, so you’re practically set up when it comes to audio solutions. The TEAM TYGR comes in quite a large box, but compact enough for it to not seem unwieldy.

Moving forward, there are two boxes inside the TEAM TYGR, one a piece for the headphones and the microphone. There’s not much extra going on here, but there is a pouch for the headphones so there’s that.

A few notes about this. You can buy the FOX mic. It’s listed with a $139.00 price tag currently on Newegg, and that comes bundled with a boom arm, a pop filter, a cleaning cloth, and an adapter for mounting. The TYGR 300 R on the other hand seems to be exclusively available in the bundle. At this time we are unable to find it separately available, so you’re out of luck if you’re just shooting for that one.

DESIGN

TYGR 300 R Gaming Headphones

The TYGR 300 R is one of the classiest headphones to grace our HQ. Its rugged, minimalist design is a testament to its performance, and we’ll get to that in a bit. Its aesthetics are in premium territory with Beyerdynamic’s sophisticated approach here – all beautiful construction without all the flairs and edgyness of current gaming headsets that flashes RGB at every opportunity or angles everywhere. 

It also features quite the flexible metal band that’s wrapped in leatherette cushion, which you can also remove if you want it replaced. The ear cups have this velour feel to it, and it feels so light especially when you take into consideration ample clamping force that, while quite light, still holds itself in place. 

It’s one of the most comfortable gaming headphones we tested here if I do say so myself. Now, we have two gripes here, unfortunately. Beyerdynamic opted for a non-removable cable that’s also isn’t braided. Take into account here that the FOX’s USB Type-C cable are braided, so why wasn’t it an option on the TYGR 300 R. Those aren’t exactly dealbreakers, but those things can add up to the overall feel and value of the device.

FOX USB Microphone

Now, this feels like an absolute premium. The FOX is quite a solid and heavy USB microphone and it feels so good to behold. Moving forward, the mic features several controls that make it work complementary to the TYGR 300 R. It has knobs for volume adjustment and mix, with the latter serving its purpose for zero-latency monitoring. There’s also a mute button at the top, and a gain switch. The 3.5mm headphone input is where you’d want to plug in the headphones.

It also comes with a mic-stand that works well enough if you just plan on placing it at the table. However, we’d strongly advice using it since you’ll most likely end up switching to high gains for higher sensitivity. You’re better off with a desk mounted boom arm with the FOX set to low gain and it close to your mouth for a cleaner audio input.

PERFORMANCE

TYGR 300 R

Beyerdynamic markets the TYGR 300 R as a gaming headphone, and we’ll be putting it to the test with a first person shooter like Overwatch, as well as try it on Resident Evil 2 Remake with its atmospheric immersive audio.

The TYGR 300 R doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles and 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound or any software to fine tune it. While it’s great to have those from time to time, not everyone has the knowledge to do so. And more often than not the software they come with are quite clunky. Instead, the TYGR 300 R delivers a rich and detailed listening experience as it is. The bass also isn’t overpowering that it feels out of place and artificial. Overall, the sound quality is clear and precise. Distortion is present once you go past 66% on the volume controls on the FOX.

Again, these are gaming headphones, so let’s try it out on games. On Overwatch, much like every other first person shooters, audio elements and sound cues are very important. While it does lack 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound, our experience didn’t have any compromise on audio. The sound sources are recognizable and distinctive, and put that on with its rich clarity and it works perfectly fine from our standpoint. The same hold true on Resident Evil 2 Remake where its atmospheric audio plays an important part in the overall immersion.  

FOX USB Microphone

There will be several factors that will define your experience with your microphone. We did our recording in a very quiet room, so there’s not much background noise going around. Anyway, you may check the recording below.

With the gain set to low, the recorded audio comes very clean and distortion free. Setting the gain to high makes the mic more sensitive to sounds, which will likely pick up background noise. There’s no other way to control the gain here, so you can’t exactly fine tune it to your desired level.

CONCLUSION

Value plays a great deal in our assessments, and we’re seeing here that the Beyerdynamic comes with a Php21,500.00 price tag at the time of writing. This is now within premium territory, but that doesn’t mean it can’t spell value. Beyerdynamic packs the TEAM TYGR with great headphones that can deliver impressive audio quality as it is and a microphone that performs as well as it looks. These aren’t the essentials in this range, but rather, it’s more of an improved experience if you want to increase your ranks in the crowded streaming space. It doesn’t capitalize on all the glitz and glamour of mainstream solutions will all the edgy designs and flashy RGBs, making it glorious in our books.
