Sony Officially Sets the PlayStation 5 for Holiday 2020!

I guess if the countless leaks and speculations weren’t enough to tell you that Sony is planning to release the PlayStation 5 in the near future, the company just made things official. Sony took it upon themselves to make things easier for everyone as it announces that the hotly anticipated PlayStation 5 is finally set for release Holiday 2020! That’s more than a year to get you and your wallets prepared!

Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment wrote on the PlayStation blog today to make theannouncement official. What’s new? Well, this is basically what we know so far. The PlayStation 5 will come with a new controller that will ship with the PlayStation 5.

It comes with haptic technology and adaptive triggers. The haptic triggers will be used to replace the “rumble” technology on the controllers to offer a broader range of feedback, thus giving you different feelings on several instances such as making a tackle on the football field or crashing into a wall in a race car. Sony has you can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.

The adaptive triggers on the other hand will be incorporated in the L2 and R2 buttons. Developers can program the resistance of the triggers of the triggers so that you’ll be able to feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow or racing on a rocky terrain. Based on our understanding, this works like how the DualShock 2’s pressure sensitive controls would, were the strength of your attacks in certain games will depend on how much pressure you put on the buttons.

We have no idea about Day 1 titles yet, how much it will be, and if backwards compatibility will be available. Whatever the case, we'll be sure to report it once new details emerge.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the PlayStation 4 won’t get any more love. We still have plenty of titles to get on the platform like Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and plenty more.  But yeah, the news is indeed deserving of its hype. GREATNESS.
