Imagine buying games at full price. Did that twice and regretted it both times, you think I’m learning, but no. I did it again when I bought Kingdom Hearts III and I was utterly disappointed. Consequences. So, yeah thankfully, Steam does exist and its myriad of deals you can check out whenever you feel like buying a game that was released a couple of months back. With the Steam Spring Sale now in action, here’s our list of recommended games you should definitely add to your cart. Or not. It’s really up to you.

Games to Buy on the Steam Spring Sale

Lies of P

I want to start off this list with Lies of P, that is, if you really don’t want to get a PC Game Pass sub and play it there. It was really so good from start to finish it’s hard not to recommend it. Pinocchio in a Bloodborne game? Sign us up. The game follows the soulsborne formula, leaving you fending for yourself and piecing the story together. The combat is tight, and the character designs are even cooler. It’s currently 25% off on Steam, so do get it if you don’t have it yet.

Final Fantasy XV

Yeah, I know. This is a game I bought full price and lived to regret it. Final Fantasy XV tells the story of our crown prince Noctis together with his band of brothers. You’re there to save the world from the evil clutches of the empire and it’s a role enforced to you because destiny and all that. The combat does need more improvement and polish, and the incomplete story leaves a lot more to be desired. Is it worth my money? Probably not. But it sure is worth my time. And for so cheap at 60% off? Just ride a chocobo and be happy.

NieR Automata and NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139

It’s hard not to include both NieR Automata and Replicant to this list. And it’s even harder to give reasons why you should play this game so we don’t spoil what you’re getting. But I’m willing to bet on anything that you’ll love this game. So I’ll leave it at that for NieR Automata. NieR Replicant is the remastered/remake edition of the game from 2010. It does get repetitive and tedious by the second half, or if you’re trying to get all of the endings. But of course, any fan who is already driven to get to the conclusion of the story will push through. 

Scarlet Nexus

Scarlet Nexus is one of the most surprising games to be released in recent years. While some parts of the story are questionable, the battle system and presentation of its narrative and world building are really something else.

Star Ocean The Second Story R

Back in the days, I sunk hundreds of hours on Star Ocean The Second Story on both protagonists, Claude and Rena. The internet wasn’t as accessible, so I had to inspect every nook and cranny to find answers. It was so satisfying to fully complete this game then (to the best of my knowledge), with superbosses and that punishingly hard Maze of Tribulations post-game dungeon. The Second Story R features loads of improvements from the graphics to the game’s quality of life. 

Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age

I am an Ivalice fanboy. It brings a combination of medieval renaissance and magical technology, with dark and grounded narratives that make entries in the setting unique. Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age presents all that with a captivating story and deep gameplay. Sure, gambits can automate your battle and you can just watch while it plays itself, but customizing it fully can really be fun. And yeah, I’m fine with Vaan as the protagonist. 

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne

Talk about desolate. Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne thrusts you into post-apocalypse Tokyo that’s infested with demons. Fight your way to your answers and see how far your resolve can get you. Oh, and if you can, get the True Demon Ending. Because it features Dante From The Devil May Cry Series. You could also get this on Switch if you have it and if it’s cheaper there, because that’s what I did.

Hades

I never liked roguelikes. I find them too repetitive for my taste. But something is really different with Hades. Played it like hell fighting to get back up only to get decimated by the king of the underworld himself just because of a bad setup or sheer bad luck. It’s fun, but it can also be frustrating at the same time. I love it.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is frequently on sale, but if you don’t have it yet, why? Here’s your chance to get it since it’s currently 50% off, and the expansion coming with a 15% discount. Do I really need to say more? Look, the game was a mess at first. It’s fixed now, and that’s all that matters.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Only on PlayStation my foot. That’s now an untrue statement for so many exclusives going to PC nowadays you just have to wait. With that said, I saved the last spot for Horizon Zero Dawn over God of War, simply because I had more fun exploring the post-apocalypse. The game is currently 75% off, and yeah the sequel, Forbidden West will also arrive on PC in a couple of days. So go get it. Oh, while I did recommend Aloy over Kratos, that shouldn’t stop you from getting God of War. Because it’s a good game and it’s also on sale at 50% off. Dear Sony, Bloodborne on PC when?
