AMD Unveils Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 Mid-Range FPGAs

AMD launches Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGAs with faster memory, stronger security, PCIe Gen4, and long-term support through 2045.

AMD has unveiled the Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGA family, a major upgrade to its mid-range FPGA lineup aimed at designers building performance-critical systems for imaging, test and measurement, industrial automation, and professional 4K/8K media workflows.

Building on the established Kintex legacy, this new generation modernizes memory, I/O, and security to keep pace with rising data demands while maintaining the deterministic performance that enterprise and industrial customers rely on.

Built for Demanding, Data-Intensive Workloads

The Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 family is designed for increasingly complex real-world deployments across broadcast, test, industrial, and medical markets. Key use cases include:

• Dense 4K/8K media workflows: High-speed transceivers and PCIe Gen4 enable 4K AV-over-IP, multi-stream capture, and frame-accurate transport for professional broadcast and remote production.
• High-throughput test and measurement: Greater memory bandwidth accelerates pattern generation, fail capture, and timing-critical workloads in semiconductor testing and inspection.
• Advanced imaging and real-time control: Scalable sensor connectivity improves clarity and responsiveness in machine vision, industrial automation, medical imaging, and robotics.
• Clear migration path: Designers can start today with the XCSU200P in the SBVF900 package and migrate to Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 in Q4 2026.

Integrated LPDDR4X/5/5X controllers deliver high DDR bandwidth with deterministic performance, helping systems handle growing data rates while maintaining tight control over latency and power efficiency.

A New Standard for Mid-Range Performance

AMD positions Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 as a significant leap forward for mid-range FPGAs, delivering up to 5x higher memory bandwidth than the previous generation and up to 2x higher channel density per PCIe interface. The result is higher throughput, lower latency, and more responsive systems — without forcing customers into higher-cost device tiers.

Compared to competing platforms, the family offers up to 80% more embedded RAM, 2x DSP density, and substantially higher LPDDR memory bandwidth, while preserving the security and long-term support required for regulated industries.

With scalable high-speed I/O, modernized memory subsystems, and predictable fabric behavior, Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 enables faster on-device processing and adaptable pipelines that can evolve with future throughput requirements.

Enhanced Security and Long-Term Support

Many Kintex-based systems operate in highly regulated environments where security and product longevity are critical. To that end, Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 integrates advanced protections such as:

• Authenticated device operation
• Bitstream encryption
• Anti-cloning safeguards
• Secure key management
• CNSA 2.0–grade cryptography

AMD is committing to availability through at least 2045, giving industrial, medical, broadcast, and test equipment manufacturers the supply stability they need for multi-decade deployments while reducing costly redesign cycles.

Development continuity is also preserved through compatibility with AMD’s mature Vivado and Vitis toolchains, along with a broad portfolio of AMD video, Ethernet, and connectivity IP.

Availability and Getting Started

Simulation support for Vivado and Vitis is scheduled for Q3 2026, allowing teams to begin architecture planning and early design work.

Pre-production XC2KU050P silicon sampling is expected in Q4 2026, with full production targeted for the first half of 2027. An evaluation kit based on this FPGA will also begin sampling in Q4 2026.

For designers who want hands-on access today, the existing Spartan UltraScale+ SCU200 Evaluation Kit — based on the migration-capable XCSU200P — is already available.
